Biography

      T
he boogie woogie rhythms of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and other great artist captured Brewer's attention at an early age. Growing up in a musical family, gospel music filled the household most all of the time. On Holidays & family occasions, lip syncing concerts were always on the books, performed by Brewer and his younger brothers. " I didn't even realize I was blessed with all this music around me, I totally took it for granted." says Brewer. At age 14 in a Jr. high school class at a new school in Oklahoma, Brewer over heard another group of kids talking guitars; this was a chance to make friends. As they talked, Brewer, with a sense of urgency awakened to the fact that music had always been around him, and his Grandfather had a music room that most musicians would kill for. He would get right to work. Later, the 80's & 90's would be a great influence introducing him to hair bands, pop, Rock, alternative ,grunge, metal, & electronica. John Calvin Brewer would form his first band to perform in his high school talent show with, Justin Warrick,  now of "Bleed The Sky". Paying due's & playing the blues have been the mainstay of Brewer's life.
As all the forces of music pull John Calvin Brewer  back and forth, his greatest influences would come from the stylings of such artist's as, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King, Robin Trower, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Freddie King,  etc.

Where will Brewer's road take him next...

Modern Rock

One of Brewer's first conquest's in music was a Power Trio, the band STOIC.

Stoic Biography
With enough pop to please, and enough rock to make you pump your fist, Stoic is a band rarely seen in today's landscape. Straight-forward and unpretentious, their songs entertain and stay with the listener long after they've been played. Stoic is a power-rock trio from Hot Springs, Arkansas, although it began, by a chance meeting, as a dynamic duo. Almost six years ago bassist Shannon Sabbatini met singer/guitarist Calvin Brewer at a jam session. "I didn't know anyone there," said Calvin, "but Shannon and I almost instantly had this chemistry that you just don't find very often." The two began to play cover songs in bars around their hometown. Calvin recalled, "We played everywhere we could, wrote a lot, paid some dues and became great friends." "Each band member is really versatile," said Shannon, when asked about their writing style. Calvin agreed, "We all put our two cents in when we work on a song, but we're pretty picky about it coming from the heart. If we don't feel it, it wasn't a good idea anyway." After some rehearsal time, the band recorded 11 songs for their first release. "Dog House Master" was released January, 2006, and has received airplay on Little Rock's 100.3 The Edge. Among the places Stoic has played are Vino’s Brewpub and Juanita’s Cantina Ballroom, both nationally recognized original music venues in Little Rock, Arkansas. In Hot Springs, the band has played at clubs such as Dad’s Place, the Stillwater Grill, Big Daddy’s, Hard Times, and Boogie’s, to name a handful. They’ve played numerous private parties and weddings, as well, including a Christmas Party for the Sheriff’s Department. As for the future.... "We want to write, record and play live for the rest of our lives," said Calvin. Shannon agreed, " We love performing for an audience and we hope our songs touch them as much as they touch us."

Blues

Blistering, Sweltering, stories from a Blues Guitar. "The First Passion".

Blues Biography

  A
product of the 90's, Brewer was heavily influenced by 60's, 70's, 80' & 90's, Bands like Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, & Led Zepplin were still huge in the main stream music market. The blues lead guitar sound they produced kept Brewer on fire for the guitar. He soon realized the origin of these great tones & sounds. THE BLUES.
At  age 16, feeling good enough to start a band, local musicians invited Brewer to a weekly held Blues Jam at the famous Al Capone hang out, The Ohio Club & another jam at a local spot where he played regularly with Chicago blues legend, St. Thomas. After realizing these guys were way out of his league, he knew he had to step it up, he needed to be able to play with anyone, anytime. Knowing what he had to do, week after week Brewer "Threw his self to the wolves", making himself play on stage with his older piers.
He learned more & more every week watching like a hawk and taking notes. "I paid alot of dues at those blues jams. I learned alot, and it really helped me become a showman", says Brewer.
This would lead to Brewer's Blues passion and fueled the start of, John Calvin Brewer & The Green Tea Band. Using what he's learned from great musicians over the years, and the passion he's always had for that sweltering guitar,
Brewer & his Green Tea Band entertain today. Combining a modern mix with a high energy Blues show. It's plain to see and hear alot of those dues are paying off.
